Carson, Ivy medal at Tri-Valley League Championship

Despite being young, the Humboldt Cubs brought home a few medals while competing at Thursday's Tri-Valley League Tournament in Eureka.

EUREKA — Humboldt Cubs wrestlers Emmitt Carson, Broc Ivy and Bentley Kolb returned from the Tri-Valley League Championship with medals Thursday night.

They hope for a repeat performance when they return to Eureka for the Feb. 21 regional tournament.

Ivy (18-9), a 157 lbs. junior, took third after opening the tournament with a 10-0 loss to close friend and rival Noah Howard, an 18-9, Fredonia senior. Ivy rebounded with a second-period pin of Bluestem junior Isaiah Wright (10-14), then bested Caney Valley sophomore Levi Good (21-12) by first period pin for the bronze medal. 

In the 144 lbs. weight class, junior Emmitt Carson (12-11) took fifth after opening with a loss by technical fall to Cherryvale senior Aiden Ecret (6-7), then fell to Fredonia junior Aaron Beard by 21-3 technical fall. He ended on a high note after taking fifth-place with a first-period pin of Neodesha sophomore Houston Lowry (9-12). 

At 215 lbs., freshman Bentley Kolb wrapped up the regular season with a fourth-place finish. He fell to Caney Valley junior Raydn Martin (22-8) by first period pin, then fell to Eureka senior Hunter Olsen (5-5) by first-period pin.
