ARKANSAS CITY — Allen Community College’s Red Devils started out on the right foot Wednesday in their road tilt at Cowley College.

The Red Devils led 13-12 over 15th-ranked Cowley eight minutes into the game before the Tigers put together a 12-2 run to take the lead for good.

Allen climbed back to within four points later in the half, but Cowley’s pressure defense took over from there.

The Tigers ended the half on a 15-3 run and never looked back in a 122-83 victory.

The loss, Allen’s eighth in a row, drops the Red Devils to 3-10 on the season.

The Red Devil women had an equally tough time, with Cowley putting together a  30-5 second-quarter run to win 108-53.

Allen’s squads are back in action today as the Red Devils host Butler County. The women tip off at 2 p.m; the men at 4.

In Wednesday’s men’s contest, Cowley’s pressure defense led to a whopping 100 field goal attempts for the Tigers, including 43 3-pointers. (They hit 17 of them.)

Allen also hoisted up plenty of field goals — 70 — but struggled from 3-point range, hitting 5 of 25. The Red Devils also committed 26 turnovers on the night.

Amadou Traore led Allen with a double-double, 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Freddie Word and Cedric Rollerson added 14 apiece. Word also had eight rebounds and six assists. Nick Whittick and Ed Wright II added nine points each. Aghmed Maghoub chipped in with seven points.

Eleven Cowley players scored at least seven points in the victory, with Raishaun Brown and Mike’i Henderson coming off the bench to lead the way with 19 and 18 points, respectively.

The two squads gave the referees quite a workout combining for 58 personal fouls, including three technical fouls on Allen and one on Cowley. The squads combined to shoot 61 free free throws.

COWLEY’S press also gave Allen’s women fits. The Red Devils turned the ball over 41 times, leading to 56 of the Tigers’ points.

Cowley scored 36 points in the first quarter, leading 36-15 after one and 66-20 at the break.

Hallie Reed led ACC with 15 points, while Chloe Burns was next with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Yasmine Garcia had two steals.

Ryley Beard led five Cowley players in double figures with 20.
