COLONY — The Crest Lancers opened the postseason with a statement making win, 58-29, over South Haven Monday.
Despite the blowout victory in their substate opener, Crest coach Dakota Sporing believes the Lancers’ journey to the state tournament will continue to increase in difficulty as they head on the road Saturday to fourth-seeded Norwich.
“I haven’t had a chance to watch too much film, but from what I can tell they’re huge and play well together,” Coach Sporing said. “We’ll for sure have to play as well as we can to come out with a win.”
Hot off their blowout of Yates Center on Friday, the Crest Lancers did not seem to lose a step in the early goings of Monday’s opener. They held South Haven to just a pair of buckets while jumping out to a 23-point advantage by the end of the first quarter.
Crest junior guard Lane Yocham put the Lancers in control early. In the first quarter he hit five 3-pointers and a field goal for 17 of his team-leading 25 points.
Junior guard Xander Fuller also got into the action with a pair of field goals with other contributions from senior guard Henry White, sophomore guard Kole Walter and senior forward Levi Prasko with a bucket each.
Fuller finished the night with 12 points, followed by Walter with seven, White with five and Prasko with a pair of buckets.
South Haven was not entirely outclassed. They saw an offensive uptick in the second quarter on a trio of 3-pointers, but the damage from the first quarter was too much to overcome.
The Lancers held South Haven to single digits in the third and fourth quarters to advance.
With the win, the Lancers improved to 18-5 and are on a two-game win streak ahead of Saturday’s contest.
Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
