Cub track athletes have good start

RICHMOND — Humboldt High’s Raquel Hill ran a strong opening-season race to place second in the 3200-meter run at last Thursday’s Central Heights High Invitational.
Hill ran the distance in 14 minutes, 22 seconds. She also placed fourth in the 1600-meter run in 6:21.
Hill combined with Emily Durand, Kelsey Cramer and Darrah Tinkler to take fourth in the 4×800-meter relay race. Humboldt’s time was 14:11.
Brandi Malloy was fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:14. She combined with Michaela Bartlett, Cramer and Whitney Strack for sixth in the 4×400-meter relay in 5:34.
Strack was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 15’2”. Desi Churning was fourth in the javelin with a throw of 72’3”.
On the boys’ side, Jarred Barr got boxed in, then battled his way to a third place finish in the 1600-meter run. Barr’s time was 5:19.
Jackson Smith was fifth in the 400-meter dash in 60 seconds. Nick Miller tied for fifth in the 100-meter dash in 11.5 seconds.
Miller, Smith, Jacob Jones and Barr combined for a sixth-place finish, 4:11, in the 4×400-meter relay race.
Humboldt goes to Eureka Thursday.
