UNIONTOWN — Uniontown High’s girls started off their 2010-11 campaign on the right foot Friday evening, throttling visiting Marmaton Valley High 45-25 in the season opener for both squads.
The Eagles jumped out early, utilizing its pressure defense. Uniontown forced 33 Wildcat turnovers.
“It was a good way to get started,” Eagle head coach Ken Holt said. “The girls played hard for four quarters.”
Uniontown raced to a 15-6 lead by the end of the first quarter and a 25-13 lead at the break. The Eagles snuffed any hopes for a Marmaton Valley comeback by outscoring the visitors 9-4 in the third quarter and 11-8 in the final period.
“We turned the ball over a lot,” Marmaton Valley head coach Kent Houk said. “We made little mistakes up and down the court. It’s time for us to get going. We played hard, but we’re out of excuses.”
