MOUND CITY — It was a closer game than the teams’ meeting on Saturday in the championship game of the Pleasanton tournament. But Uniontown High’s Eagles were not able to avenge the loss.
Jayhawk-Linn High’s Jayhawks hung on to beat the Eagle girls 36-33 Tuesday night.
“Another great game. We just came up short,” said Ken Holt, Eagle head coach.
Holt said Breanna Esslinger hit a three-pointer with 38 seconds remaining to cut the margin to one. Uniontown had a chance to take the lead but missed it.
“Abbie (Smith) had the rebound then the ball got knocked loose in the melee. Amery Miller (of Jayhawk-Linn) got one to go in. We got another good look at a three but it didn’t fall.”
Jacy Ermel had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Eagles. Smith had five assists and two steals. Uniontown was 13 of 44 for 29.5 percent from the field and hit 4 of 7 free throw attempts.
Jayhawk-Linn went 15 of 53, 28 percent, from the field and tossed in 5 of 12 foul shots. Taylor Dawson and Meriel Long each had eight points.
Uniontown fell to 7-5 for the season. The Eagles have a makeup game at home Thursday against Erie.
