YATES CENTER — Offensive struggles plagued Yates Center High’s girls from start to finish Tuesday.
The Wildcats mustered only four points in the first quarter and 12 in the first half of a 39-26 loss to visiting Eureka High.
The loss drops Yates Center to 1-6 in Tri-Valley League play and 6-7 overall.
“The girls played good defense,” Wildcat head coach Abby Collins said. “We just have to be more aggressive offensively and take better care of the ball.”
Eureka led 11-4 after one period and 24-12 at intermission. They pushed the lead to 19 points, 35-16, with an 11-4 third-quarter spurt.
“We missed a lot of close-in shots,” Collins said. “We have to finish those shots.”
Cherokee Shaffer and Kassy Reynolds share team high-scoring honors with eight points apiece. Reynolds also had eight rebounds.
Taylyn Schwartz led the Tornadoes with 14 points.
Yates Center travels to Caney Valley on Friday.
