CHANUTE A strong fifth inning kept the game from turning into a blowout as the Iola Fillies struggled in their season opener, falling 9-5.
The Fillies trailed by seven after the first three innings but five fifth-inning runs got the Fillies within striking distance. They didnt have the hits late to score the comeback.
I was extremely proud of how the girls fought back from a 7-0 deficit and definitely made it a ballgame, head coach Chris Weide said. Thats what I expect and they expect it out of themselves and their teammates as well. We have a lot of girls playing with very little varsity experience in new positions. We just need more reps and to trust in each other to be in the right spots and we will find some success.
