PARSONS — Iola’s Taylor Payne went 1-3 in No. 1 singles action Monday at a Parsons junior varsity tennis tournament.
Payne dropped her opening match to an Independence player, 6-2, before winning via forfeit over Coffeyville.
Payne then lost, 6-2, to Fort Scott, and 6-4 to Chanute in consolation action.
In doubles play, Sloan Geddry and Cassidy Lowell dropped their first round match to a Parsons duo, 6-0.
From there, they picked up a forfeit win over Coffeyville.
They fell, 6-0, to Fort Scott and 6-2 to Labette County in consolation action.
Iola’s top varsity doubles team of Macayla Bycroft and Erin Klubek struggled in their match against the doubles team from Pittsburg on Monday.
The pair went to Independence to make up a match that had been rained out. They couldn’t get anything working and fell 8-0.
“We just didn’t play our best,” Fillies’ coach Jenn Bycroft said. “We couldn’t get any momentum going. Pittsburg is a tough team and really knew where to place the ball.”
The Fillies’ varsity travels to Pittsburg for its next tournament on Thursday.
