The Allen Red Devils have a new head baseball coach for the 2026 season after promoting interim coach Trey Harris during the June Allen Community College Board of Trustees meeting.
This will be Harris’s first college head coaching position after spending much of last spring co-managing the Red Devils with then fellow assistant coach Chase McQuagge.
“I’m so grateful to Allen for allowing me to show my potential in the three months I was the interim and giving me the chance to take it over,” Harris said.
Before coming to Allen, Harris played in the minor leagues.
Harris and McQuagge took over the Red Devils last spring following the departure of Clint Stoy and interim head coach Kirk Doyle, leading them to a 16-33 record and fourth in the Jayhawk Eastern Conference standings.
Harris said last season was disappointing.
“It helped us build that family atmosphere off rip. It brings you closer,” Harris said. “That trauma tied us together. It made us very close. We had deep conversations and moments in the locker room where we were visibly crying. We had to get through it together.”
Thanks to that experience, Harris believes the Red Devils will come back stronger than ever next season. However, his goal is not just to strengthen his team. Before taking the field, he will require players to have at least 10 hours of community service.
“I just want to be present. I want people to know I care about Iola,” Harris said. “I care about everything around it. It’s not just what we do on the baseball field. They can reach out to me if there are any community service opportunities.”
