Humboldt High School and Marmaton Valley each competed in their respective volleyball sub-state tournaments on Saturday, but each team lost to end its seasons.
The Cubs picked up a win against Erie in the first round (25-16, 25-19) before losing in the semifinal to Wellsville in straight sets (25-19, 25-4).
Tilar Wells led Humboldt with seven total kills on the day.
Rylan Wilhite recorded a team-high 10 assists in the two games.
“It was an amazing season,” coach Cara Thomas said. “We grew as a team and improved every single day. I am excited for the future of Humboldt volleyball.”
Humboldt finished the year 17-17 overall under Thomas, who was in her first year as head coach.
The Wildcats were pitted against Pleasanton in their sub-state tournament on Saturday.
Marmaton Valley lost in two sets (25-16, 25-17).
Misty Storrer, Shayla Brooks and Mackenzie Tynon all had two kills in the Wildcats loss.
Coach Terra Kegler and company finished the year 18-16.
