Humboldt Speedway crowns points champions

HUMBOLDT — On the final regular season night of racing at Humboldt Speedway there was plenty going on.
There were guest drivers, including Chris Fleming from North Carolina and featured driver in the History Channel’s reality show “Madhouse” driving in the modified division, as well as vintage cars on the track.
And there were powder puff races.
There was the threat of a thunderstorm. Speedway owner Ron Whitworth and his crew had work the track well to get it ready after the area received three inches of rain Thursday.
The rain came after the races were completed Friday night.
The most important feature of the night was divisional points champions were crowned. All four divisions were decided on the final feature races of the season.
Mike Aiello ran fourth in the feature race but earned the 2010 points championship in the pure stock division. David Matlock won the race followed by Shane Ballew, Derryl Aiello, Mike Aiello and Mike Churning in the top five.
Fleming, who said he’d try to run the best he could against the area drivers, finished in the middle of the pack of the modified feature race. He was 11th out of 23 cars.
Justin Folk wrapped up his seventh Humboldt Speedway modified points championship in 10 years, including back-to-back ti-tles for the third time.
The 2010 title came after he claimed the modified feature victory Friday at the Hummer.
Brian Bolin drove from the 12th row to run second in the race. Chris Deaton finished third and Jesse Folk Jr. was fourth. Dennis Bishop placed fifth.
The 2010 factory stock points champion was Friday night’s feature race winner, John Rosson. It was Rosson’s first champion-ship at Humboldt.
In the factory stock final points race, Tyler James came across in second place. Derrek Wilson finished third, followed by Blake Davis and Tim Phillips.
Levi McGowen is the 2010 B-Mod points champion. McGowen ran second to Jay Lamons Jr. in Friday’s B-Mod feature race.
Tim VanGotten turned in a third place finish. Jimmie Davis and Steven Trester rounded out the top five in the B-Mod race.
Keith Simmons drove to another feature win in the vintage cars at Humboldt. Jack Simmons placed second with Dale Reese in third. Benny Page Jr. took third followed by Russ Moyer, Joe Martin and Pat Trusler.
Taking the track for the powder puff races were the ladies.
Ravyn Whitworth lapped Tammy Bunn in the B-Mods. Denise Aiello won the pure stock with Kerra Burrs in second. Sissy Constuble beat out Sabrina Miller in the factory stock race.
There are no races this Friday.
Saturday is the Mirza Shrine’s Combine and Compact Car demolition derby. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the action is at 7 o’clock.
