COFFEYVILLE — Iola Middle School’s girls basketball teams didn’t give up, but weren’t able to score a win against Coffeyville Monday night.
The eighth grade A-Team lost 39-29, scoring 10 points in the fourth quarter. However, the Ponies couldn’t overcome a 28-10 halftime lead by Coffeyville.
“The girls didn’t quit,” coach Marty Taylor said. “We got it down to eight around the two-minute mark, but just couldn’t get over the hump.”
Piper Moore led the team with 15 points and also had four rebounds. Kendra Sprague scored six points and grabbed five rebounds. Madisyn Holloway put up eight points.
“Kendra did a much better job inside tonight,” Taylor said. “We need that every game.”
The seventh grade A-Team lost 34-14.
“We let them intimidate us a little at the start,” Taylor said. “The girls did a much better job in the second half.”
Kelsey Morrison led the Ponies with seven points and eight rebounds. Sydnie Keagle scored two points and grabbed four rebounds. Elysia Kunkler had three points and Carlie Payne had two points.
“Elysia gave us some good minutes off the bench,” Kunkler said.
