On Thursday, Iola High School supporters took the opportunity to thank and wish the best of luck to four staples of their football program as the quartet signed to continue their football careers.
Coach Doug Kerr hosted the signing announcement for seniors Evan Sigg, Gus Luedke, Brice Aiello and Mason Key. The coach made a point of stating how important this senior class was to him in the process of building his program.
“This is my first freshman class and they stuck it out all four years,” Kerr said. “It’s neat because you’ve seen the whole process.”
Luedke, Aiello and Key have all committed to Independence Community College.
Sigg, meanwhile, will attend Butler Community College in El Dorado.
A visit to the Independence sealed the decision to attend there, the Iola threesome said.
“I’ve been dreaming about it since I started playing football,” Luedke said.
Key didn’t always think football was going the be the sport he played in college, but after displaying his kicking talents at Iola he was offered the opportunity to kick in college and he jumped at it.
“I didn’t expect to come and kick for a football team,” Key said. “I wanted to just play soccer, but that didn’t work out, so I’m excited to kick for Independence.”
Luedke, Aiello and Key said familiarity with each other should ease their transition.
“I had other colleges considering me, but having those two guys go there and us playing against and with each other since middle school, I think it is going to be a good deal,” Luedke said.

SIGG will attend Butler Community College. The standout offensive lineman had several offers, but ultimately his comfort with the Butler program drove him to choose the Grizzlies.
Sigg made clear his goals on the football field do not end here. Although he- grateful for the opportunity he hopes to be signing again after his two years at Butler with a four-year school.
“This isn’t the last step at all,” Sigg said. “I’m going to try my hardest at all times to just have a chance to get onto the major college level.”
All four players will now have the chance to continue to display their talents on the field.
Aiello summed up the attitude and passion that he is bringing to the next level.
“I love football. Football is my life.”
