Iola Middle School versus Anderson County Middle School
The Pony volleyball team opened up its season on the road at Anderson County on Thursday.
The Iola A-Team fell in five sets (23-25, 25-28,19-25,25-20, 13-15)
“I thought we played pretty well for the first match of the season,” head coach Terri Carlin said. “We had some errors at critical times, but overall we had some great things happen.”
Reece Murry had a productive night as she led the team with 11 service aces for the match along with a team leading 5 kills.
Jenna Curry followed right behind with  5 aces and 4 kills. Logan Ulrich had 5 aces and 3 kills, Triniti Loveall had 4 aces and 3 kills, Ally Ellis led the team with  4 assists and 2 kills, Hannah Hall had 3 assists and 1 kill and Chloe Sell had 2 assists.
Meanwhile, the Pony B-Team walked away with a three-set win, beating Anderson County 2-1 (25-16, 23-25, 26-15).
Miah Shelby  was the most consistent server on the B-Team, serving 10 straight in the first set including 3 aces for the win.  Loveall also served well and had 5 aces along with 2 kills.
Mariah VanNice, Hannah Hall and Ally Ellis each added 1 ace serve while Hall and VanNice each had 3 assists and Ellis and Shelby had 2 kills each and Hall added 1 kill.
Finally the C-Team led by Shelby grabbed both of their two sets, winning 2-0 (25-9, 25-20).
Shelby had 11 aces for the match and an assist.
“Miah has been working very hard on her serving,” Carlin said. “She has a great underhand serve that just dropped right in front of the other team.  She was a leader on the floor as our setter.”
Vivian Noah added 5 aces and Jenise Holding had an ace and a kill. Elizabeth Baker had 2 aces and 1 kill and Austyn Paulie had some great passes.
The Ponies will head back on the road today for a match in Wellsville.

Marmaton Valley Middle School versus Yates Center Middle School
The Marmaton Valley and Yates Center junior high volleyball teams hooked up to start the season  at Yates Center on Thursday. Marmaton Valley’s A, B, and C teams all won their matches.
The A-team won 2-1 (12-25, 26-24, 15-11) with the second set win coming in come from behind fashion.
“I think there were some nerves the first game, but we got past those and were ready to play after that,” Marmaton Valley head coach Kaylan Colgin said.  “The girls were able to serve the ball well and started the season off right.“
The B-team also won their match in three sets grabbing the first and the third while falling in the second.
The C team won their match in 2 games.

Humboldt Middle School versus Cherryvale Middle School
The Lady Cubs started the season off with a sweep of the Cherryvale Middle School Lady Chargers at Cherryvale.
The A-Team came out aggressive and Karley Wools led the team in Aces in the first set score 25-11. After that though, the Lady Cubs serving struggled in the beginning of set two however, Madi White had three outstanding kills and Emily Ross came off the bench and got the job done with 3 service points in a row.
“I’m very impressed with how well these ladies played tonight,”  head coach Darcie Croisant said. “Our quote for the evening was “Teamwork divides the task and multiplies the success,” We had a great night of success and I’m excited to watch these ladies continue to grow, and dominate together.”   
The  B-Team won 2-0 (25-16, 25-16)  were very consistent in serving with Peyten Galloway and Karley Wools leading the team in aces.  Ella Lassman had the only kill for the evening.
Finally, the C-Team also won 2-0 (26-24, 25,17) in match one and 2-0 (25-8, 25-19) in match 2. Raegan Trester, and Melina Hess lead the team in aces.
The Lady Cubs head home to take on Bluestem.
