GARNETT — The Iola A Indians swept the Garnett Muddogs in a double-header Tuesday night.

The Indians cruised to an easy victory in Game 1, winning 13-1.

Brandon McKarnin led things off on the mound for the Indians. The Southpaw went three innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out five and walking one.

The Indians racked up 12 hits, with Sam Hull, Trey Sommer, Gavin Page, and Carter Hutton having a big night.

“Hutton, Page, Sommer, and Hull each collected two hits to lead the Indians in hits. The Indians tore up the base paths, as four players stole at least two bases. It was a good night. We had four or five kids hit the ball well,” said Coach Bob Johnson Jr.

Sommer led the way with three. The Indians didn’t commit a single error in the field. Hutton had the most chances in the field with five.

In Game 2, the Indians asserted their will over the Muddogs with a 12-2 victory.

The Indians fired up the offense in the first inning. Brandon McKarnin grounded out but in the process brought in a run.

The Indians pulled away for good with two runs in the second inning. Briggs Michael had a walk, and scored one run. Gavin Page’s sac fly also scored one run for the Indians.

The Indians scored five runs in the fourth inning, with walks by Rogan Weir, Trevor Church and Landon Weide, and singles by Michael and Jarrett Herrmann.

Mac Leonard was on the pitcher’s mound for the Indians. Leonard pitched two innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out one and walking one.

“We were able to get a few kids in who have not pitched for us lately,” said Johnson.

Page went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the Indians in hits. The Indians were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Carter Hutton made the most plays with six. The Indians tore up the base paths, as three players stole at least two bases. Page led the way with four.
