ST. PAUL — Crest High’s Lancers had a “great start” to a lackluster performance Tuesday according to their head coach.
“We had the great start but were very inconsistent at both ends of the court,” said Travis Hermreck, Lancer head coach, after a 58-48 win on the road at St. Paul.
St. Paul High’s girls overwhelmed the Lady Lancers 63-22 Tuesday.
The Lancers rolled to a 22-5 advantage on host St. Paul High’s Indians. The Indians outscored the Lancers 20-13 in the second period.
Crest controlled a 35-25 halftime lead and went on a 10-5 run out of the break. St. Paul held an 18-13 edge in the fourth period.
Bryan Newton fired in 23 points for Crest. Kyle Hammond netted 16 points and Zach Stinnett added 12. The Lancers were 11 of 12 from the free-throw line.
The Lancers are 5-0 in league play and 14-3 overall. They await their seeding and pairing in next week’s Class 1A regional tournament, hosted by Pleasanton.
St. Paul, which is in the Yates Center 1A regional next week, was led by Tyler Coomes with 14 points. James Smith had 10 points.
The Lady Lancers trailed 15-6 after the first quarter then were down 38-11 at intermission. St. Paul outscored Crest 25-11 in the second half.
Ashley Catt scored 13 points for Crest. The Lady Lancers fell to 0-5 in Three Rivers League play and 1-16 overall.
St. Paul had four players in double figure scoring led by Allison O’Brien with 19 points.
Crest hosts Northern Heights Thursday in non-league makeup games. The CHS teams travel to Uniontown Friday to end their regular season.
