The Marmaton Valley volleyball program split its two matches Tuesday night in Moran. The Wildcats fell in two sets to Eureka (25-27, 20-25) but bounced back to sweep Yates Center (25-14, 25-16).
“We played sloppy tonight,” coach Terra Kegler said. “We struggled passing the ball so we weren’t able to set it up and hit it very often. We just didn’t play to our capability.”
In Marmaton Valley’s matchup with Eureka, Mackenzie Tynon was once again the team’s leader with seven kills and two blocks. Shayla Brooks added five kills and four other Wildcats recorded at least four points on the night.
However, Kegler said her team could have done more in order to grab a victory and play more consistently.
The squad bounced back against Yates Center after a nine-point performance by Trinitee Guiterrez. Tynon added another eight kills while Kyla Drake put up two kills to help Marmaton Valley reach a 6-3 record on the year.
Marmaton Valley’s JV team followed a similar path to the varsity squad, losing the first game to Eureka (16-25, 15-25) and then beating Yates Center in the second (25-20, 25-10).
Patricia Outlan led the Wildcats with six kills on the night while Magie Stevenson wasn’t too far behind with five.
Karlie Stephens recorded a team-high 12 points as well.
“The girls stepped up and played well against Yates Center,” said Jamie Stodgell, the JV coach. “We had good passes which allowed our setters to use for our hitters.”
The Marmaton Valley C team was the only Wildcats’ volleyball squad that defeated Eureka (25-8, 25-21).
Kari Shadden and Shailee Woods both led the Wildcats during the sweep with eight points each.
Shadden and Patricia Outlan also each had two kills on the night.
