COLONY — Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats scored touchdowns on their first five possessions Friday, securing what amounts to a third straight Three Rivers League title along with it.

The Wildcats were never challenged against an outmanned Crest squad, rolling to a 56-0 win.

The victory puts Marmaton Valley at 4-0 in league play, one game ahead of Oswego in the standings with one game to go.

More importantly, the Wildcats stand at 2-0 in Eight Man-II, District 1 play, which will determine playoff seeding.

Marmaton Valley (6-1 overall) will wrap up the regular season next Friday at home against St. Paul, intent on staying unbeaten in both league and district action.

Crest, which has been ravaged by injuries this season, showed fight as the game progressed, forcing a pair of Wildcat punts in the second quarter.

But Crest struggled against the punishing, and lightning-fast Wildcat defenders.

The Lancers (1-6 overall) will travel to Waverly next Friday. Crest stands at 1-4 in TRL action and 0-2 in district play.

Friday’s game between the long-time rivals carried an extra bit of emotion with it.

On top of being Crest’s Homecoming Night — Lancer seniors Jensen Barker and Kinley Edgerton were crowned king and queen — fans, students and staff from both schools donned yellow T-shirts for mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

The shirts donned a simple, yet powerful message: “Stay; the world needs you in it.”

Following the contest, supporters of both schools gathered at midfield for a joint prayer.
