RICHMOND — Iola High’s junior varsity put forth its most complete game of the season, according to its head coach.
The Mustangs rolled to a 32-0 victory Monday over Central Heights, lifting the JV record to 2-3 on the season.
“Our defense played really well,” Iola JV coach Dana Daugharthy said. “The biggest play they had on offense was a 10-yard boot by their quarterback. Outside that play and a couple of penalties, we did not let them move the ball on us.”
Keyed by Blayke Reynolds’ two interceptions, Iola forced three turnovers on the day. Caleb Alexander also added a fumble recovery on defense, one he returned for a touchdown.
Conversely, Iola had no such trouble with the Viking defense.
Ethan Sheibmeir rushed for two touchdowns of between 5 and 10 yards, Daugharthy said, while Jake Gumfory added a rushing score. Caleb Alexander ran in a score from about 30 yards.
Statistics were not available by deadline.
“Offensively we moved the ball very well,” Daugharthy said. “Overall, this was the most complete game that our JV has played.”
The junior varsity returns to action Monday at Wellsville. Iola’s varsity squad hosts Wellsville at 7 p.m. Friday.
