Despite being without a number two singles player, the Iola tennis team had a fine showing on Monday in Chanute, finishing the day with a 9-2 overall record.

Elijah Fawson moved back to the number one singles spot after a couple of successful tournaments competing at the number two spot. On Monday he went 4-0.

Fawson opened the tournament with an 8-3 win over Neodesha’s Eli Peck. He then beat Columbus’ Tucker Piene 8-4 and then Labette’s Jordan Sutton 8-1. He wrapped things up with an 8-3 win over Chanute.

Jon Miller and Bret Plum-lee reunited at the number one doubles spot for the first time in several tournaments and also ended up 4-0.

Miller and Plumlee started things off with an 8-0 win over Neodesha before following that with a shutout of Columbus. They then won 8-4 over Labette before ending things with an 8-3 win over Chanute.

Eason Cheung and Adryan Nading reunited at the number two doubles spot and while it didn’t go as smoothly, they still walked away with a win.

Cheung and Nading started things off with an 8-0 win over Neodesha before the wheels kind of fell off. They then lost to Labette 8-5 and Chanute 8-4. Columbus did not bring a No. 2 doubles team so that technically ended up counting as a win for the Mustangs.

Iola will head back to Chanute on Friday for another tournament.
