Hot off a second and sixth place finish respectively at the state tournament in Garden City a few weeks ago, Humboldt sophomore Connor Newman and Iola senior Brennen Coffield state officials recognized them as 3A All-state golfers.
Newman and Coffield’s appearance on the all-state first team considering their friendly local rivalry often put them in the same pairing during tournaments.
Newman earned his place on the all-state first team following his second-place finish at the state tournament by carding a 76, 4 over par, at the 18-hole course. Before state, he took the regional tournament title in Caney Valley, which was only one of multiple tournament titles he captured since his high school debut last March in Caney Valley.
Coffield earned his spot on the all-state first team after qualifying for state for the third consecutive year by carding a 78 at the Anderson County regional tournament for third place. Coffield also earned a few tournament titles this season and was regularly near the top tournament standings in each appearance. While at state, he bested both players who finished ahead of him at regionals by four strokes.
Considering both players plan to return to the links next season, Allen County golf fans have plenty to look forward to in 2026.
