The Iola eighth-grade volleyball team came away winners at Santa Fe Trail on Monday as both the A and B-teams beat the Lady Chargers.
The A-Team had to gut it out in a five-set battle, winning 3-2 (15-25, 28-26, 21-25, 25-13, 15-11).
“I don’t feel like we played our best ball tonight, so it was great to come out with a victory,” head coach Terri Carlin said. “We made plays when we needed to. It seemed like everyone had some bad plays, but everyone also did something great to contribute to our win.”
Jenna Curry led the way with six kills and five aces. Logan Ulrich also came up big with four aces, two assists and five kills.
Reece Murry had three kills and five aces, Ally Ellis, three kills, four assists and two kills, Triniti Loveall, one ace and two kills, Chloe Sell, three aces, three assists, and one kill, Hannah Hall, one ace and Mariah VanNice had an assist.
The A-Team is now 9-1 overall and 5-1 in the league.
In comparison, the B-Team could breathe easier, winning in straight sets (25-14, 25-11, 25-16).
“The girls worked together tonight,” Carlin said. “We did a great job serving the ball and Hannah Hall had a great night at the net. Hannah can really jump and when her timing is on, she is a great tipper. She scored points on five tips.”
Ellis led the way with six aces and Miah Shelby, three aces. Vivian Noah, Hall, and VanNice each had two aces.
The Ponies will host Chanute on Thursday.
