The Allen Red Devils made it five straight wins Tuesday night when they hosted and beat Kansas City Kansas Community College 72-67 in a game that started as a blowout and ended close.

Allen improves its record to 8-1 overall this season after ending non-conference play Tuesday versus the Blue Devils. The Red Devils took down KCK on the road last week by 20 points.

The Red Devils got ahead by as much as 10 in the first half before KCK’s zone thwarted their momentum. By halftime, Allen was up by six, 35-29.

Allen started the second half strong, jumping out to a 17-point lead with 14 minutes to play in the game.

After that though, the Blue Devils couldn’t be stopped. KCK broke out on a big run and not only cut Allen’s lead but they also carved out a two-point lead of their own before ACC sophomore Perry Carroll hit a key corner three to retake the lead which they would hold for the rest of the game.

Allen struggled shooting the basketball, ending the game with a 33.9 percent clip which was dwarfed by the Blue Devils’ 51 percent.

What saved ACC were the rebounds, particularly on the offensive glass.

Carroll led the way for Allen in scoring with 21 on 4-13 shooting and 10-13 from the free-throw line.

Freshman Malik Hardmon was the only other Red Devil to score in double figures with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Freshman Trez Hankins had nine points and Jamaal Clifton and Wesley Anderson Jr. each had eight.

The Allen County women also faced KCK and lost 90-75 and moved to 2-6 on the year.

Both teams will open up KJCCC play next Wednesday by hosting Pratt Community College at 6 and 8 p.m.
