Regional volleyball brackets released

With the regular season now in the books, area volleyball teams not look ahead of Monday's regional matchups.

The upcoming regional tournament quad brackets are out and each area team has a unique challenge ahead Monday.

The Iola Mustangs enter the tournament as the lowest seed of its four-team round-robin tournament. The Mustangs, seeded 13th, open against the host team and fourth seed Jayhawk-Linn (21-11), then face fifth seed Baxter Springs (23-13). Their last game of the day is against 12th seed Osawatomie (9-20), who Iola swept Tuesday night.

At 2A, the top-seeded Humboldt Lady Cubs (27-9) will host their regional quad and open against 16 seed Belle Plaine (4-28), then ninth-seeded Eureka (13-17). Their last match is against Erie (16-19), seeded 8th. 

On the other side of the bracket, while also hosting their quad, the fourth-seeded Yates Center Wildcats (19-11) open the tournament against 13th-seed Southeast (9-20), then face 12th seed Douglas (10-21). Their last game is against fifth seed St. Mary’s Colgan (18-15).

In 1A action, sixth-seed Crest (13-15) will take part in a three-team round-robin at Goessel opening with the 11th-seed Howard/West Elk (8-24), then taking on the host school Goessel (24-10) school in the finale.

Marmaton Valley and Southern Coffey County are in the same regional but different quads as Marmaton Valley comes into their tournament as the seventh seed and open against 10th-seed Chetopa (1-23) before facing Axtell (22-13), the host school and second seed, in the finale. Southern Coffey County (1-26) enters as the 11th seed and opens the tournament against the third seed and the host team Waverly (20-13), then faces sixth-seed St. Paul (8-21) in the finale.
