Titans fall in 1A substate action

LE ROY — A spirited comeback came up one heart-breakingly point short Tuesday evening for Southern Coffey County High’s boys.
The Titans, down by 12 at halftime, outscored visiting Hartford High 22-11 in the second half, but still wound up on the short end of a 37-36 decision.
The loss ends Southern Coffey County’s season in the opening round of the Class 1A, Division 1 playoffs.
Hartford led 14-7 after one period and 26-14 at the break.
The Titans closed the gap to 31-26 after three quarters.
Travis Bryan scored 12 points and Aaron Ludolph 11 for Southern Coffey County.
Michael Wilson’s 13 points led Hartford. Colten Barrett scored 11.
Both teams struggled at the free throw line. Southern Coffey County hit 8 of 17 charities; Hartford 2 of 9.
Hartford advances to the semifinals of the substate tournament Friday to take on top-seeded Olpe. Crest High’s Lancers, the second seed, will play St. Paul, a 43-24 winner over Pleasanton Tuesday.
Southern Coffey County is the host school for the final two rounds of the tournament, but the games will be played at the Allen County Community College campus in Iola.
