HESSTON — Allen County Community College’s golfers re-grouped after a disappointing first round Monday. The Red Devils finished seventh in the Jayhawk Conference designated No. 5 tournament.
“There were very windy conditions. None of our players’ scores were in the 70s in the first round,” said  Mike Hayes, ACCC golf coach. “We were disappointed in the first round. Our goal is to keep our scores in the 70s.”
Hayes said the Red Devils played better in the afternoon round. He said Allen County posted the fifth-best team score in the second round, which pushed it to seventh overall.
Bryant Welch and Nick Agnew shot 76 and 77 for the second 18 holes of golf. Welch finished with a 159 (83-76), tying for 20th.
Agnew tied for 24th at 161 (84-77). Will Clark shot even rounds of 82 to finish with a 164.
Hayes said Rob Carlson had a good round going but injured his knee with nine holes remaining to play.
“He continued to play but finished playing essentially on one leg. Hopefully Rob’s injury is not serious,” Hayes said.
Carlson finished at 165 (83-82) and Gavin Cole carded a 173 (89-84).
Hutchinson won the team title with a 574. Allen County had a 649.
Dodge City’s Chien Hau Tan shot a 142 with even par rounds of 71 to win the tournament.
Allen County plays at the Baker University Invitational April 21-22 at Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence.
