CHEROKEE — Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcat boys rallied to edge Frontenac High’s Raiders 51-49 to win the Southeast High Lancer Classic’s seventh-place game Saturday.
Marmaton Valley’s Wildcat girls weren’t as fortunate. They went up against a red-hot Southeast High team and lost 66-46 in the seventh-place contest.
The Wildcat boys were up 25-20 at halftime but the Raiders went on an 18-5 run in the third quarter. Trailing 38-30, the Wildcats outscored the Raiders 21-11 in the final eight minutes to pull out the win.
Zach Louk fired in nine of his 13 points in the fourth quarter and had five steals in the game. Landon Hammond dropped in 11 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for the Cats.

Southeast’s Lancer girls shot almost 45 percent from the field in the first half against Marmaton Valley. They led 25-12 after one quarter and held a 39-21 halftime advantage.
“They shot it very well in the first half, actually for the whole game. We had 18 turnovers, which was down but still too many,” said Kent Houk, MVHS girls’ head coach.
