CANEY — Yates Center High’s girls played perhaps their two best quarters of the season Friday night.
But the Wildcats were unable to sustain their level of play after halftime.
On hand to take full advantage was Caney Valley High’s Lady Bullpups.
Caney Valley outscored Yates Center 16-6 in each the third and fourth quarters to wrap up a 53-35 win.
The loss drops Yates Center to 6-8.
“It was a fast-paced game,” Wildcat head coach Abbie Collins said. “We just didn’t have anything left after halftime.”
Yates Center led 17-15 after one quarter and 23-21 at the break.
But Caney Valley took an eight-point lead, 37-29, by the end of the quarter and rolled from there.
Kassy Reynolds and Autumn Douglas each had solid games for the Wildcats. Reynolds had 12 points and nine rebounds. Douglas added 11 points and five steals. Cherokee Shaffer swatted six blocks for Yates Center.
Three Caney Valley players scored in double figures, led by Bethany Barlow with 16 points. Kati Hiner scored 12 and Kayla Clapp 10.
Yates Center won the junior varsity contest 41-26, led by Brae Adams with 16 points.
The Wildcats travel to Cherryvale on Tuesday.
