Wildcats sweep Jets in opener

MORAN — The Craig Richey era for Marmaton Valley softball got off to a great start on Tuesday with a pair of lopsided victories over Altoona-Midway.
Game one took only three innings as the Wildcats run-ruled the Jets 18-3.
Sophomore Karlie Stephens pitched all three innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits while striking out six.
Isabelle Bigelow, Paige Becker, Sarah Spillman and Stephens each reached base every time they stepped to the plate in game one. Those four combined to go 3-for-3 with eight walks.
Becker and Bigelow each scored three runs and Stephens had a team-high three RBIs.
In game two, the Wildcats beat the Jets 15-1 in three innings.
Shaylee Woods pitched all three innings and allowed just one earned run on two hits and three walks.
Makayla Brooks and Bigelow each went 3-for-3 in game two.
Stephens continued her perfect day with a double and two walks.

UP NEXT
Marmaton Valley is slated to hit the road against Waverly/Lebo today.
