Yates Center, Uniontown athletes place at Neodesha

NEODESHA  — Yates Center High’s David Van Hoose and Uniontown High’s Emily Aikins were double gold-medal winners at Thursday’s Neodesha High Invitational track meet.
Van Hoose won the 100-meter dash in 11.7 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 23.2 seconds, a personal-best time. Aikins did the same on the girls’ side, winning the 100 in 13 seconds and the 200 in 27.9 seconds.
Trenton Miller of Uniontown won the boys’ discus with a throw of 126 feet, 3 inches. Yates Center’s Brae Adams captured first in the girls’ discus at 116’8”.
Also for Uniontown, Aikins was third in the long jump, and Abby Dixon took fifth in the discus and sixth in the shot put. Rachel Henderson placed third in the 3200-meter run and fourth in the 1600-meter race.
Carter Wood was third in the boys’ high jump.
Yates Center’s Sam Aguirre ran second in both hurdle races, in 17.1 seconds in the 110-meter highs and 43.8 seconds in the 300-meter intermediates.
C.J. Stiffler was fifth in the shot put at 39’9”. He placed fifth in the javelin at 133’9”.
For the Wildcat girls, Cherokee Shaffer tied for fourth in the high jump at 4’6”.
Mindi Holloway took second in the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 59 second with Shaffer in fourth at 3:05. Paige Steinforth placed five in the 400-meter dash in 70.5 seconds.
Haley Bedell placed third in the 300-meter low hurdles in 57.07 seconds. In the 100-meter high hurdles, Holloway was fourth, 19.6, and Bedell was sixth in 20.9.
The 4×400-meter relay team of Steinforth, Shaffer, Bedell and Holloway was third in 4:58. Shaffer, Steinforth and Holloway combined with Macy Heger to take fifth in the 4×100-meter relay race in 58.24.
