Allen Community College head cross country coach Vince Degrado has stated the season is not a sprint but a marathon. The Red Devils hope the miles they add to their legs prepare them for the Region 6/Jayhawk East Championships coming to in Iola on Oct 26.
In the meantime, the Red Devils competed in the Saint Marys Dual in Leavenworth over the weekend.
I probably should have went into this race differently workout wise last week, however, I used this as a train-through meet, DeGrado said. I definitely underestimated how tough the course was. The positive thing was it exposed our flaws and what we need to do moving forward.
DeGrado was impressed with sophomore Josh Doria running a sub 26-minute race on the 8,000-meter course. At this point in time in the season, Doria is on the upswing before the men have their next meet in three weeks at the Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo.
On the womens side, DeGrado said sophomore Ryiann Araujo showed heart and drive with her time of 23:06 in the 5,000-meter run. DeGrado said his womens team is a work in progress, and will continue to push them daily through training.
