Cecil Eugene Brown, 90, of Higginsville, Mo., formerly of Kansas City, Mo., passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017, at the Meyer Care Center in Higginsville.
Cecil was born on July 10,1926, in Mildred, the son of Scott Robert Brown and Carrie May (Sloan) Brown. He attended schools in Mildred and Colony, and graduated from Iola High School in 1945. Following high school he moved to Kansas City where he worked several different jobs before his military service. After returning to Kansas City he worked at Fred Harvey’s at Union Station for 24 years, one year for Staler-Hilton Hotel Chain Culinary School, Hartford, Conn., and worked 21 years for Mid-America Service until his retirement in 1989.
He was a Korean War veteran, having served from 1950 to 1952 as a Corporal, 3rd Armored Division, and served in Korea one year in Ichon near Seoul. He received the Korean Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, and the United Nations Service Medal. He enjoyed visiting Japan when on leave.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by five brothers and four sisters, Carl, Ruth Heath, Dr. Wilma Brown, Beulah Carney, Howard, Charley, Helen Butterworth, Kenneth and Doretha May.
Cecil is survived by one sister, Shirley (Brown) Parsons, West Hills, Calif., and 15 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, 16 N. Buckeye, Iola. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mildred. The family will greet friends at the funeral home an hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Preferred Hospice and left in care of the funeral home.
