OVERLAND PARK — The Allen Community College women’s basketball team lost 66-42 to Johnson County Community College on Monday night.
It was the Lady Red Devils fourth straight defeat as they now fall to 4-6 on the young season.
Once again, coach Todd Buchanan’s team was plagued with a poor shooting performance that led to Allen’s worst offensive game of the year.
The Lady Red Devils were 14-of-43 from the floor (32.6 percent) and just 4-of-15 from beyond the three-point arc (26.7 percent).
Johnson County, the reigning NJCAA D-II national champions, did not fare much better as it shot 35.3 percent from the floor and 28.6 from three-point range. However, the Cavaliers sunk 10 more buckets than the Lady Red Devils, including twice as many three-pointers.
Allen also struggled on the glass. Addie Haar was the squad’s leading rebounder with five boards.
Four different Cavaliers had at least five rebounds and Johnson County as a whole outrebounded Allen, 47-27.
Ariyah Sorrells was the Lady Red Devils’ leading scorer with 12 points.
Monday night’s contest was the last for the Allen women’s basketball team before the Thanksgiving break. Once the team returns, it will begin conference play.
