MORAN — Marmaton Valley High’s girls looked all the world Tuesday like they had played their third game in five days and second on consecutive nights.
“We didn’t have much in the gas tank,” Wildcat head coach Kent Houk said after visiting Lebo High blasted its way to an 11-1 lead after one quarter and rolled from there to a 52-24 win.
Lebo High’s boys had control from the outside here Tuesday, jumping in front early against Marmaton Valley High’s boys and never looking back in a 62-36 victory.
The loss drops the Wildcat girls’ record to 3-16. The Wildcat boys are 7-12 on the season.
The Wildcats have one more regular season doubleheader Thursday — makeup games from Feb. 8 — before beginning Class 2A substate play next week. Marmaton Valley hosts Northeast High of Arma.
Houk said Marmaton Valley had to contend with illness in addition to weariness.
Starting senior Morgan Henry didn’t suit up because of illness, “and the rest of the girls looked worn out,” Houk said. “We played hard the night before.”
Lebo pushed its lead to 20-5 at halftime and 38-14 after three quarters.
Maggie Meiwes led Marmaton Valley with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Kailey Boyd added six points and four steals.
Jessica Robertson scored 13 and Ivy Ables 12 to pace the Lady Wolves.
In the boys’ contest, Lebo led 35-13 at the break. The margin swelled to 49-21 by the end of the third period.
Cole Becker led Marmaton Valley with 14 points, while Dalton Houk scored 10. Landon Hammond pulled in six rebounds and had three steals. Derrick Carr had four assists.
Thadd Barker and Jake Gould shared high-scoring honors for the Wolves with 17 points apiece.
