4 A survey of public opinion in the Iola and Humboldt school districts will likely be taken by citizen committees as a result of discussions held last night between the two school boards to consolidate the districts. It was noted at the meeting that the idea of a county high school that would serve all Allen County students was considered in 1977 but rejected. No action was taken at last nights meeting, which was the last for Iolas Denise Apt, who resigned as required by her election to the state Board of Education.
9 HUMBOLDT While it wasnt a bombshell, the District 258 board of education did surprise Iola District 257 officials last night by deciding to drop all consideration of consolidating the two districts. The board here also voted against taking a poll of district patrons on the subject. It was decided that sampling public opinion would be a waste of time and money, Supt. of Schools John Smith said. Board members said many patrons had contacted them on the matter and that all of the comments they heard were negative.
