Dr. Scott was chairman of the first town meeting in Oklahoma City and publisher of the first newspaper printed in Oklahoma City. A teacher and scholar, Dr. Scott served as president of Oklahoma A & M. College in Stillwater from 1899 to 1908. He was professor of English and literature at Oklahoma City College until he retired. The Elks lodge has taken over the veterans club location over Heigele’s Harness Shop on South Street for temporary quarters. The club offered right after the fire to turn over their lease to the Elks, sell their furniture at cost and just go out of business as a club. That offer was accepted yesterday after other possible temporary locations had been investigated and found less desirable than the South Street location.

Thomas H. Bowlus and Walter S. Fees, owners of the Northrup building which was destroyed by fire, do not intend to erect a new structure on the site in the immediate future. Bowlus said this morning that building costs are so high and materials are so difficult to obtain that he and Fees do not care to undertake the project.
