Mary Kay Smith and John David Heard, Jr. were married at Wesley United Methodist Church on Nov. 4, 1962.
The Rev. Paul Pentz officiated the wedding. The maid of honor was Sandra Conner and the bridesmaid was Kay Jorday. The best man was Leon Thompson, David’s cousin. Richard Boyd was groomsman. Candlelighters were Sharon and Connie Heard, sisters of the groom. Dale Heard was the ring bearer. Jackie Talkington was the flower girl. 
David has been a lifelong resident of Iola. Mary Kay came to Iola as a one-year-old, when her parents bought the Western Auto store. Mary Kay and David were in the Western Auto business all their married lives, until they retired in 2009.
Their children are John Heard, III, LaHarpe, Sharla Miller and her husband, Tom, Iola, and Scott Heard and his wife, Robin, Gilbert, Ariz. Their grandchildren are Savannah Heard Flory, Justin Heard, and Paige, Matthew and Jenna Miller. Their great-granddaughter is Leanna Marie Flory.
The children and grandchildren plan a celebration party with family and friends.
