Neil and Roberta Crane celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a surprise party with family and friends at the Allen County Country Club on May 14. The buffet dinner was hosted by their children, Leslie, Lake Ozark, Mo., Erik and Heidi, Nixa, Mo., and Mitch and Olga, Manama, Bahrain, and their six grandchildren.
The couple were married May 28, 1961, in Eureka. After graduating from college they moved to western Kansas for three yeas where he coached at Ransom High School in WaKeeney High School. They then moved to Emporia where he coached at his alma mater, the College of Emporia for three years. They then lived in Highland where he coached at Highland Community College and she taught in the elementary school.
Their move to Iola was in 1975. He coached basketball at Allen County Community College retiring in 1996. She taught at Jefferson Elementary School retiring in 1998.
The couple enjoys traveling, visiting grandchildren and going to their home at the Lake of the Ozarks.
