INDEPENDENCE — Iola High School’s Forensics team members narrowly missed out on a sweepstakes championship Saturday.

The Iola actors and speakers took second place at the Independence Invitational. Iola finished four points behind meet champion Pittsburg.

Still, Iola put forth several top individual performances.

Results follow:

Oral Interpretation of Prose: Max Andersen, first; Cole Moyer, second; Cara Porter, third; Kendall Glaze, fourth.

Oral Interpretation of Poetry: Shaun McLaughlin, second; Demarco Ross, fifth. 

Humorous Solo Acting: Everett Glaze, first; Macie Hoag, fourth. 

Serious Solo Acting: Macie Hoag, first; Maddy Cookson, second; Layla Newkirk, fourth, 

Duet Acting: Layla Newkirk and Brigham Folk, second.

Duo Interpretation: Kendall Glaze and Everett Glaze, third.

Improvised Duet Acting: Cara Porter and Brigham Folk, first; Max Andersen and Cole Moyer, second; Kendall Glaze and Everett Glaze, third.

Impromptu Speaking: Macie Hoag, third.

Informative Speaking: Bethany Miller, sixth.
