It appears social distancing included a boost from the Iola Public Library.
On a typical day, roughly 250 books, DVDs, board games or other materials are checked out from the library, director Roger Carswell explained.
On Monday — when word began to spread the library would close indefinitely because of the COVID-19 pandemic — 878 items were checked out.
Included in the list were 627 books, 222 DVDs, 10 board games and 19 miscellaneous items, Carswell said.
Library staff will work limited hours to keep up with the returned books.
People may call the library, 365-3262 between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. to ask questions or renew their books. Patrons also can email or text the library at iolaref@sekls.org. Those who send a text should also identify themselves.
