Library programs star pets, people & pirates

September programs at the Iola Public Library  begin Thursday, Sept. 5 with with “The A,B,C’s of A, B, & O Blood Types.” Allen County Regional Hospital’s Director of Laboratory Services, Michel Meyers, speaks about the antigens on red blood cells, what determines the different blood types, how we inherit our blood types from our parents, and why you can’t transfuse an incorrect blood type. The program is at 7 p.m.

At 6 p.m. Sept. 16 is the Pinterest Party. Attendees will make door décor for fall.  Pre-registration and a fee of $3 are required by Sept. 13.

“Caring for Your Pet” is on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 4 p.m. Dr. Belinda Garten of Red Barn Veterinary Service gives tips about the care and feeding of your pet.  She will also answer questions.

Celebrate National Pirate Day on Thursday, Sept.  19 with a free showing of the movie “Goonies” at 5 p.m. Attendees can wear pirate hats and eye patches; the best-dressed pirate wins a prize.  Registration deadline is Sept. 14.

“Dermatology — Skin Health with Stacey Kale” is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25.  Kale, of Family Physicians, discusses the importance of the care and treatment of skin, hair, nails, and health habits.

Steve Strickler speaks on “Allen County Recycles” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26. Iola is accepting items monthly beginning Sept. 7. Now available to individuals as well as businesses, the program accepts newspaper, magazines, cardboard, plastics, glass and cans. Strickler outlines the latest and explains what recycling means for you and Allen County. Rotary Club of Iola sponsors the program.
