USD 257 has budget authority to spend nearly $17 million during the 2010-11 school year.
That statistic is among several in informational packets provided to board members for their meeting tonight. They will gather at 6 o’clock at Jefferson Elementary School and tour the facility before settling in at the gymnasium for a business meeting.
During the session, board members will hear a presentation regarding prayer in school and distribution of Gideon Bibles.
They will review upgraded Kansas Board of Regents admission standards, mainly a requirement for a fourth year of high school math. The standards apply to students who seek admission to the University of Kansas, Kansas State, Wichita State, Pittsburg State, Emporia State and Fort Hays State universities.
Board members also will be asked to approve a partnership with the Senior Community Service Employment Program to employ two people, 55 or older, to help with a variety of lunchroom or office chores. Employment will be for 20 or more hours a week.

OTHER STATISTICS show total head count this year is 1,332 students, including 755 — 56.7 percent — who qualify for free or reduced price lunches — a standard used to determine state funding for districts.
The district’s assessed valuation is $50,619,730. When its ad valorem tax rate of 48.317 mills is applied, the result is a local tax contribution of $2,445,793.50. That leaves nearly $14.5 million coming to the district from external sources, the lion’s share in state aid.
In the budget, $12.4 million is found in general and local option budgets, which fund daily operations, including salaries. The district employees 108 teachers, 36 paraprofessionals, 10 administrators and 100 support personnel. The district has no bonded indebtedness.
