You may not not readily recognize Brett James or Hillary Lindsey, but you’ve certainly heard their songs.
Both James and Lindsey began their careers signed to perform as artists on record labels but through circumstances became two of the most prodigious, award-winning songwriters in Nashville today.
The two will perform songs that they wrote — songs made famous by someone else — when they bring Music City Hitmakers to the Bowlus Fine Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 10.
Tickets sell for $24 for orchestra seating and $21 for the balcony. Student tickets are half price.

For over a decade, Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer Brett James has been one of the most prolific and versatile songwriters in Nashville having had more than 300 of his songs recorded by major label recording artists. James has become a fixture on the Billboard Country chart with 13 No. 1 songs and scores of top 20 singles to his credit.
In 2009, James achieved the Music Row “Triple Play,” an award for three No. 1 songs in a single chart year.
And he did it twice.
It was James, after all, and not Rodney Atkins who penned “It’s America,” and Kenny Chesney’s smash “Out Last Night,” and Carrie Underwood’s “Cowboy Casanova.”
James has toured with the CMA Songwriters series since 2010 sharing the stage with some of country music’s biggest stars; Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, Chris Young, Martina McBride and many more.

Grammy Award-winning songstress Hillary Lindsey hails from the small town of Washington, Ga., and remembers writing songs as early as age 10.
In 1994, Lindsey entered Belmont University’s esteemed Music Business School. It was there that she discovered her penchant for song and forged the writing relationships that had her destined for success. Before finishing at Belmont, Lindsey signed her first publishing deal and had eight songs recorded by major label recording artists in the very first year.
In 2002, Lindsey enjoyed her first Billboard Country No. 1 song with “Blessed,” recorded by Martina McBride.
During the years following this milestone, Lindsey had a streak of top 30 singles with such artists as Terri Clark, Sara Evans, Carolyn Dawn Johnson and again with Martina McBride.
Lindsey returned to the top of the country charts in January of 2006 with “Jesus Take The Wheel,” recorded by Carrie Underwood. The song, which she co-wrote with the aforementioned James and fellow Music City Hit-Maker Gordie Sampson, spent six weeks at the top of the charts.
BOTH JAMES and Lindsey have mark in other genres as well, working with such groups as Chicago, and Lady Gaga.
