They say every dog has its day.
Saturday is every dog’s day at Riverside Park.
A fundraiser called Yappy Days will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the park, with proceeds to the Allen County Rescue Facility in LaHarpe.
The tail-wagging good time includes contests for the wettest kiss, biggest and smallest dogs, yappiest dog, best-dressed dog, dogs that look the most like their owners, dogs with the longest ears, and the dog that catches a thrown object the most times in a row.
A puppy kissing booth, dog obedience demonstration and paw art site will involve both owners and their pets. A one-mile Fido Walk will encircle the park.
Yappy Days is the inspiration of Rebecca Aguirre, Piqua, who borrowed the idea from a similar event in Wichita. She’s a speech paraprofessional at Lincoln and Jefferson elementary schools.
Aguirre’s dog, Angel, part terrier and American Eskimo, won the wettest kiss competition in Wichita with 64 licks in 30 seconds. The licked one was Aguirre’s daughter, Felicitas, 14.
Pet owners are reminded to bring their dogs on a leash or in a carrier. All pets must have current vaccinations and be of a friendly nature to participate.
No cats allowed!
