Gunshot fired at Parsons business

PARSONS — A Parsons man was arrested on suspicion of firing a gun at an occupied Parsons business last week, according to The Parsons Sun. The Neighbors Wine and Sports reported someone fired a shot into a window May 1. Police found one shot had been fired by some type of long gun through a bay window, and reported it was part of an ongoing domestic situation. Anthony Emert, 49, whose house burned down in April, was arrested in the shooting incident. The cause of the house fire remains under investigation.

Playground opens

CHANUTE — New playground equipment opened to local children last week at Chanute’s Highland Park, according to The Chanute Tribune. The project was valued at $200,000. A tunnel and swings still need to be installed but officials said they wanted to open the park to children before last weekend. The equipment is expected to last 20 to 30 years and the play surface includes designs to help children and adults who use walking-assistance equipment.
