CodeRED warnings have become more user-friendly.
Some enrollees are not interested in receiving flash flood warnings, “particularly at 2 o’clock in the morning,” said Pam Beasley, Allen County’s emergency management director.
Now, those who want   the service — an automated telephone call telling of critical local weather or emergency events — may decide whether they want to receive warnings for tornadoes, severe  thunderstorms or flash floods, or all three, simply by checking boxes on a county website form. Apart from weather warnings are community notifications such as evacuations and missing child alerts.
Preferences may be noted online at www.allencosheriff.org, www.allencounty.org or www.cityofiola.com.
Current enrollees should simply reregister for the service, Beasley said. “When they reregister, that acts as an update,” Beasley told The Register this morning.
The CodeRED enrollment page also has been refined to include an interactive map to verify a person’s location and “you even are able to launch a test call directly from the website,” Beasley said. Additionally, a pop-up window displays recent weather activity in the area.
While enrollment on the website is easy, Beasley and Sheriff Tom WIlliams both said they are happy to help anyone uncomfortable with computers get signed on. Such persons may call either Beasley, at 365-1477, or the sheriff’s office at 365-1400 for assistance.
