Red Roots, a band made up of red-headed, identical triplet sisters, will perform on the Bowlus Fine Arts Center stage this weekend.
The southern Mississippi Christian band will perform at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Individual tickets are $11 and $9 per ticket for a group of 15 and more.
Nika, Nicole and Natalie Taylor got their musical start in church. At age 4 they began singing in the children’s choir and began learning how to play several instruments soon after. Their pastor had started an alcohol rehabilitation center and asked the band to play monthly at the center. Slowly but surely other churches started calling the sisters to play at events.
During the girls’ senior year of high school they bought their mother tickets to an Isaac’s concert for her birthday. There was also a talent contest at the concert which the sisters won. Ben Isaacs became the producer of their first single, catching the attention of Daywind Recording Studios. The trio was then signed to Red Hen Label.
The band has played as special guests with country singer Josh Turner and has been nominated for Country Album of the Year at the Dove awards.
The name, Red Roots, comes from the girls’ fiery locks and the band’s message that the group is “rooted in the blood of Christ.”
