An Allen County official plans to step up to an international stage.
Jason Trego, Allen County Emergency Management director, told county commissioners about opportunities he intends to pursue in addition to his regular duties.
The International Academy of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) asked Trego to apply for a position where he would review accreditation applications on the group’s behalf. He also was encouraged to become an instructor for emergency fire dispatchers.
Work for both positions would be done on his own time. He also would need to attend training in Salt Lake City, Utah, where the group is based.
“It’s a good opportunity for me, professionally and personally,” Trego said.
“And it would benefit the county because we have to reapply for accreditation every two years, and I’ll know what the board is looking for. I will also be able to provide instruction for dispatchers in-house instead of sending them out of town for training.”
Last year, Trego taught a class at the IAED conference. He showed dispatchers from around the world how to use a database he designed that reviews 911 procedures used by dispatchers to improve their responses.
The class was so well received, Trego has been asked to return to this year’s conference in an expanded role.
Commissioners gave Trego their blessing to seek the additional roles and congratulated him for the recognition.
