Midway through the season, the Allen County Farmers Market is in full swing Thursday evenings along the west side of the square.
“We now have 40 vendors registered,” reported Debbie Bearden, secretary of the organization and a frequent contributor of homemade goods. (Bearden’s Wild Sand Plum Jelly makes toast a treat.)
New fruits and vegetables appear every week.
Cantaloupe made its seasonal debut Thursday night.
Next week watermelon is expected.
Squash, tomatoes, okra, corn and peppers are plentiful as well as baked goods.
The Allen County Farmers Market accepts all forms of payment, including electronic transfers necessitated by credit and debit cards as well as those who carry Vision cards.
To add to the evening’s delight, organizers are seeking entertainment during the market’s 5:30-7:30 p.m. time frame.
Next week, cooking demonstrations of fresh vegetables will be given at the market.
For those who need electrical hookups, power can be accessed from the southwest corner of the courthouse, Bearden said.
